Applicants are sought by the SBU from members, in the first instance, for the post of the Congress Convenor. The post would commence from appointment, although the organisation of the newly announced online Congress in December 2020 would not be part of the remit.
The SBU considers that their 3 annual National Congresses (2 Home and 1 Overseas) should showcase all that is best in Scottish Bridge. They wish to offer good, well-managed competition across the spectrum in a well packaged, pleasant social setting.
A new partnership with GEBOS (formally Bridge Overseas) means that the Congress Convenor role is now focused on co-ordinating and helping facilitate the bridge and social side of congresses – the accommodation arrangements are now dealt with by GEBOS. The Congress Convenor would be the SBU representative, responsible for front of house, whilst liaising with GBOS to ensure the best setting and most effective marketing. The Convenor should be available where necessary to “fill in” at the bridge table and to help out with the day to day organisation where necessary.
The Congress Convenor is supported at all points by a Congress Committee and there is a small level of remuneration with free accommodation and a contribution towards additional congress costs.
This post would ideally be suited to a two-person application, but, as the post is now considerably less onerous with the removal of all the accommodation arrangements, consideration would be given to a single applicant.
