New Regional Master Ranking

For the commencement of the 2016-17 playing and membership season (1st September) the SBU is introducing a new rank into the MP scheme.

This rank of Regional Master will recognise the endeavours of experienced Bronze players who are half-way to the Scottish Master rank; that is those who have gained an overall total of 100 MP, and within that at least 25 National (red) points. The Regional Master rank is classified as SILVER, thus opening up the possibility of these players now playing in a different set of ranked competitions.

All existing qualifiers for this rank will be informed directly by Sept 1st (please make sure that your details are up to date in MEMPAD).

Also by Sept 1st we will divide the Bronze category into four groups (presently three), so that bronze prizes can be better tailored to the mix of players in any particular event. In general terms, entry to ranked events and/or prizes will be based upon a three-monthly snapshot taken on 1st Sept, and thereafter on 1stDec, 1st Mar, and 1st June of each year.

A listing will be published and available on the SBU website and/or MEMPAD shortly after each three-monthly date.

The SBU Council believes these kind of measures will make the ranking system more responsive to the needs of the majority of our members who are bronze players.

ED Sim Pairs Master Points

The MP credits for the ED Sims have now been done — listed with the date 6/11/2016, i.e. the date of the event.

League Masterpoint Claims

Claims for league match masterpoints can be done in two ways:

Complete the Claim Form (which is MS Word format) then email it to either as a WORD document or as a scanned image. The Word document has predefined entry fields so is quite simple.

Should you prefer, you may print and complete the form, by hand or in Word, then post to SBU Member Services, SBU Dept #16, 196 Rose St, Edinburgh EH2 4AT.

Your document will not be receipted, so please retain a copy.

If a division is complete by 1st May then all the teams in that division will be processed within the month. A list of the missing teams will be posted on the East District website on May 2nd. No commitment can be made at this time as to when late entries will be processed.

MATCHES v NEBA

NEBA (North East Bridge Association....Newcastle area) welcomed the East District to Berwick for their annual matches. The A team were represented by Liz McGowan & David Liggat, Brian Short & Fiona McQuaker, Fiona Greenwood & Veronica Guy and Derrick Peden & Tim McKay.

The match was played over four stanzas of 12 boards. Their first set was -18 imps, recovered in the second to go 5 imps ahead but after losing 17 imps in the third had a deficit of 12 imps going in to the final set. They managed a +10 to narrowly lose a very close match by 2 imps...so the Newcastle Journal Trophy travels south.

Representing the B team were Lucia Barrett & Jake Corry, John Hamilton & Gordon Kirk, David & Wendy Chambers and Jim Wilkinson & Catriona Gardiner. They got off to a good start being 19 imps up in the first set but lost the next three sets to lose their match by 20 imps. The Edinburgh Salver also heads south.

This was a reversal of the 2015 results and Eastern District will be hoping to regain both trophies in 2017.
