Scottish Bridge Union: East District
We have Minibridge packs available for anyone who might want to consider starting up a group at a local Primary School. If you're interested please contact Norma Bain 0131 6614345 or Laura Middleton 0131 6671849.
For those who want to learn bridge (not mini bridge) there are classes on Thursdays 7-9pm at the Melville; and for those who can play - Thursdays 6.40pm at the Carlton for a beginners tournament - no partner needed - just turn up.
Various clubs and teachers around the district run programmes of bridge classes and learners’ tournaments.
In Edinburgh, both the Carlton Bridge Centre and the Melville Bridge Academy (in the Melville Bridge Club) offer a structured range of classes, from absolute beginners through to intermediate players.
Please contact us to be added to this list if you're offering SBU classes in your area.
In 2011, the SBU offered some weekend events suitable for bridge students and new or inexperienced players. These weekends aimed to introduce you to tournament play in a small and supportive environment. The events were fun and friendly, and there were experienced players on hand to answer your questions and facilitate the play.
Two weekends included tuition (led by Liz McGowan) and include lectures, quizzes, handouts, and tournaments. The other two were play only, allowing guests more time to relax and enjoy the surrounding area. They gave guests the opportunity to play in Pairs and Teams events.
