Latest News

The Junior Camrose (for under 25s) and the Peggy Bayer (for under 20s) was hosted this year by the SBU and specifically by the Eastern District, on Saturday Feb 18th and Sunday Feb 19th at the Riccarton Campus of Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh.

All 5 nations (Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland) have a Junior team, but there is no Welsh Peggy Bayer team.

Spectators

Spectators are welcome and to be encouraged. You may watch in the Open Room, or in the Vu-graph room where you will be treated to a running commentary by a team headed by Ian Crorie (Scotland on Sunday Bridge Correspondent).

If you are unable to attend, play will also be broadcast on Bridge Base Online throughout the event. Play begins at 11.00 on the Saturday and runs through to 23.36 with a break for dinner between 18.15 and 20.00 hours. On Sunday play runs from 11.00 to 18.16.

Junior Camrose Trophy

This is the Junior International Championship of Great Britain and Ireland.

It was first played for in Glasgow in 1971 as an under-30 match between Scotland and England sponsored by Cutty Sark. Wales and Northern Ireland joined in the following year, and the Republic of Ireland was accepted in 1999.

The age limit was gradually reduced to the present 25 years to conform with World Bridge Federation practice. Scotland won the initial match and again in 1973, but the trophy has been monopolised by England. In recent years, the best result for any other country was Scotland’s draw in 1998.

This year we have a full set of teams from all five nations so each will play two 12-board matches against each of the others. Each team has seating rights in one match.

Peggy Bayer Trophy

The Under-20 event was first played in Cheltenham in 1990, again as a straight match between England and Scotland, and again, Scotland won. The Trophy was donated by Palmer Bayer, an American who settled in London and was a generous supporter of Junior Bridge, largely responsible for the founding of the Educational Trust for British Bridge.

Wales and Northern Ireland joined in 1991, and the Republic of Ireland in 1999. Although Scotland won when it was held in Glasgow in 1995, England has dominated this event also, and they are the holders.

This year Wales has been unable to field a team so each of the remaining four teams will play three 12-board matches against each of the others. Each team has seating rights in one match, and line up for the third match is made blind .
